AHB is a wholly owned company of the of the Hawke's Bay & East Coast Aero Club Inc which is responsible for co-ordinating its fulltime training of national and international students. The AHB academy specialises in providing full-time
integrated pilot training from a Beginner through the Private Pilot
License, Commercial Pilot License, Instrument Rating, Instructors
Ratings, and Multi-engine Ratings. Mountain Flying Courses, Dangerous
Goods, Hypoxia Courses, and GPS Courses are also available. In
addition training can also be arranged for Basic Gas Turbine Theory.
All the training is in modules to allow the flexibility for students
to choose which License or Rating they wish to complete. |

The Academy is a Part 141 Training Organisation and has nine
experienced and successful staff persons. All Instructors are well
qualified, hold Single pilot IFR Qualifications, are current pilots,
and subject to three Competency Check per annum. The Senior
Instructors hold “B” Category Instructor Ratings. Supported with the contracted services of an “A” Category Instructor.
The
Academy is approved to conduct Private Pilot Examinations. There is a
resident Government Approved Flight Crew Examiner, and an Air
Transport Check and Training Officer.
The
Pilot Training at Hastings Aerodrome is done under a Government
issued Aerial Work Certification and Part 141 Training Organisation
Certification.

The Aero Club's Air Transport Operations are also conducted under NZ
Government Air Service certification. Academy Courses have New Zealand
Qualification Authority approval and the Ministry of Education
approval. The above approvals and certifications and our 70 years of
pilot training experience are all indicators to show you that the
Academy is being run to high quality management standards and
is a well recognized, stable and successful establishment.
All
students for Professional Pilot Qualifications are tested to ISO 9001
Quality Standards. In the last three years we have had over 100 pilots
graduate with a national qualification.

The Aero Club Aerodrome is called the Hastings Aerodrome and is adjacent a small township called Bridge Pa. It
is situated on the Heretaunga Plains 2kms south of the western
suburbs of Hastings and 4kms from the Hastings City centre. |
| There are two eighteen hole golf courses adjacent to the Aerodrome. A
Gliding Club, Skydiver Club, two Helicopter Operators, Aircraft
Avionics and Engineers and two Aerial Agricultural Operators are based
on the aerodrome. There is also a NZ Aerial Mapping Company and an
Aircraft Servicing and Sales Business. There are several privately
owned aircraft at Hastings along with a group of Amateur Aircraft
Builders. |

The
main runway is 3500ft long, sealed and has night lighting installed.
The parallel grass runway is 3000ft long. The grass/seal cross runway
is about 2000ft long. Fuel and oil are available. There are four
Instrument Approaches into Hastings and up to eight different Instrument Approaches within five
minutes from take-off at Hastings. All Approaches are available for
Instrument training.
The
Aerodrome is dedicated to the training of fixed and rotor wing pilots,
glider pilots, and parachutists, supported with Air Transport
Operations and Air Ambulance movements.

- 1 x 5-bedroomed
house with 2 kitchens and 2 bathrooms including 2 electric cookers,
microwave, 2 fridges and 1 chest freezer. Lounge area includes some
leisure facilities.
- 3 x 2-bedroomed
cottages including fully self-contained kitchens and bathrooms.
- All bedrooms
contain a bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers, study desk and lamp.
- There is a laundry
available for all tenants which provides a washing machine, dryer,
and ironing equipment.
- Outside
clotheslines are also available.
Accommodation is to be applied for by completing the relevant
section of the Application Form. The cost of accommodation is
$NZ125.00 per week.
- A Tenancy Agreement
is required to be completed on arrival, regarding standard rules of
behavior to be observed.
